My lovely mother arrived from Alaska Tuesday morning. It's been really fun having her with us. Since there aren't many shopping opportunities up in Kenai, Mom and I have been running around to all the stores she can't go to, taking care of business.
The other morning we went to Costco. There's a Costco in Anchorage, but that's still a 3 hour drive from Mom and Dad's house compared to 15 minutes from our house. Anyway, as I was filling up our car, a lady in a 4Runner zipped up to the spot that had emptied in front of me. She rushed out of the car, quickly put her cards in the slot, tapped her foot impatiently while pumping her gas, and then sped off when her transaction was completed. Mom and I watched all this and decided we were very happy not to be in a such a hurry. And that's been our theme ever since. We have a list of things to do, but no time restrictions. Gotta get to the grocery store to buy some milk? "That's OK, Meggie, we're not in a hurry." Need to decide what movie to go to tonight? No worries, Madro, "We're not in a hurry."
Unfortunately, even our baby is in on this. Our midwife checked my progress at my appointment Wednesday and said, in essence, "Nope, absolutely nothing going on." Sigh...
Despite this, all of our excursions have still been enjoyable. We've gone around all of IKEA, cruised the South Towne Mall, unsuccessfully searched the $5 DVD bin at Wal-Mart from top to bottom (literally--we brought some empty shopping carts over to help us sort through them all) for another copy of the Wallace and Grommit movie, taken Mom's cuckoo clock to get repaired, and that's not even everything.
Hopefully sometime soon the baby will decide she's not in a hurry anymore and wants to see what all the fuss is about here with the rest of us.
